There are several ways through which you can end up damaging your hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are especially sensitive and should be taken care of. The following are some mistakes that hardwood floor owners make.
• Drag: Nothing ruins hardwood floors more than the lines of scratches and dents that scar it. Some homeowners make the mistake of dragging their furniture across their hardwood floors. In order to avoid leaving any scratch or nick on your hardwood floors, put contacts under the furniture or wheels before moving them. You can also enlist the help of a friend to carry the chair to the position that you want it to be in. But don’t drag.
• Water: Some homeowners make the error of using water to mop their hardwood floors. Water does not have the cleaning effect on your hardwood floor that you may be gunning for. Water used over a long period of time will end up depleting your floor’s lifespan.
• Vinegar: You should not make the common mistake of using vinegar to get rid of stains on your hardwood floor. Vinegar’s acidic nature can eat into your hardwood floor and destroy it totally.
• Heavy shoes and high heels: Walking around your home in high heels is fine as long as it’s carpeted or your floor is marbled. Hardwood floors however do not take kindly to the nicks and dents high heels or heavy shoes make on them.
• Sweep: Some home owners make the gross mistake of sweeping their hardwood floors with a hard bristled broom that only cause scratches and don’t do any good with the dust. Use a soft bristled broom instead to take care of dusty hardwood floors.
